Eagle Pass Roof Repair

Roof insurance claim basics (Texas)

This page is general information, not legal or insurance advice. Your policy and your insurance company decide what is covered.

Steps most homeowners take

  • Take dated photos of the damage and any debris right after the storm.
  • Read your policy for deadlines to report damage, and report it to your insurer.
  • Make temporary repairs to stop more damage (a tarp, a bucket) and keep the receipts.
  • Get a written repair estimate from a roofer.

Texas rules worth knowing

The Texas Department of Insurance explains these rules:

  • A contractor cannot offer to "waive, rebate, or absorb" your deductible.
  • For contracts of $1,000 or more paid through insurance, the contract must say you are responsible for the deductible, and your insurer may ask for proof you paid it.
  • A roofer cannot act as your public adjuster on a job they are also doing, or negotiate your claim for you.
